Merry Christmas!!

今年は去年よりもたくさんブログを載せました。といっても個人的なFigure Drawingの記録ばかりで興味のない人には退屈だったかもしれないけど。来年はもう少し変化と中身のある内容を目指したいけれど、あくまでこじんまりとあまり人目を気にせず続けていくのをモットーにやっているので、どうなるかはわかりません。

とにもかくにも、よいホリデーとよいお年を。

亀の甲羅に潜む愛

明日で２０１１年も仕事納め。前日の今日は最近ではかなり珍しく暇だった。うまくいけば明日は半日。１月２日に戻ってくるまで１週間強の休みに入る。正月よりもクリスマスの方が断然重要視されてるアメリカは仕事始めは早いけれど、休みに入るのも早い。盆休みというものがないので、ほぼ唯一の統一的な長期休み（自分でとる有給休暇的バケーションを除いてという意味）。理不尽なラッシュの仕事が入らないことを切に願う。毎年のようにそれで少しゴタゴタするので、たまには穏やかに終わってほしい。

P.S. あまりにも暇だったので、レイアウトを少しかえてみた。慣れないとなんだか見にくい。ヘッダー用の絵を今度描こうと思う。

昔描いたネコのハーフシスターである。もうちょっと表情のある感じに描けたら良かったのだけど。

Figure Drawing #25

予想はしていたけど、先週のモデルが強烈すぎて今週は気持ちが乗りづらかったなー。一般的にいえば、今日の人の方が全然奇麗なのだろうけど、なんだかとてもビッチィーな人だったっていうのもあって、なかなか惹き付けられなかった。ビューティーとは難解である。

ちなみに今日のが今年最後のクラス。少し休んで、また来年いくつもり。

ふわふわと現状維持の世界もいいではないか

忙しい季節なので仕事は忙しいけれど、いろいろわるくない。毎日自転車で通勤し、クライミングに行き、のんびり本を読んだり、週末にはドローイングのクラスにいったりしている。最近は冬らしくLAもそこそこ寒い。もうすぐ今年も終わる。近頃は友達にレクチャーしてもらいながら自分のウェブサイトのリニューアルを少しずつ進めてる（おかげで新作の政策は滞っているけれど）ボスがいろいろうるさいのもあって（それだけではないけど）残念ながら年末は帰れない。でも、そのかわり、友達が日本から少しだけど遊びに来るので楽しみだ。べガスで一発当てたい。

I really liked today's model. I, ( and it seemed everyone else in the class too) really enjoyed drawing her. Very interesting forms to draw. I hope you find her interesting to look at because I posted a little too many. The best thing about this drawing workshop is the varieties in the model's body type.

Yu and I went to this ceramic artshow in Rolling Hills tonight, and it was a very inspiring show. check it out if you are nearby.

Figure Drawing #23

Today's model was really good (though my drawing wasn't so good.) According to my friend, he is a pretty well-known model around here, and he's been a model for a quite long time. He didn't take a break for the first hour and half, just kept posing and posing, and got everyone into the zone. Everyone, including myself, seemed a little exhausted on the 2nd half of the class.

今週のフィギュアドローイング。モデルさんも自分もパッとしなかったな。同じように描いてるつもりでも、物の見え方とか線の出方とかどうしてこうも変わるのだろう。といっても、自分が気にしてるほど、実際には表に出てないような気もするけど。出来の悪すぎるのはここにアップしないし。

自画像とホースフラット

昨日はドローイングのクラスをさぼり、久々に外に登りに行った。うちから１時間ちょいの岩場ホースフラットに。もともとはキャンプもするつもりだったのだけれど、前後の天気に恵まれなかったので、日帰りで。ちょうど前日に初雪が降ったようで、きれいに薄く雪が積もって、しかも当日は奇麗な秋晴れで、とても気持ちのよい登り日になった。友達のカメラに頼り切っていたので、いま全然手元に写真がない。

Sacred Memories

I totally forgot to announce this, but there was an opening reception last Friday for a group show, in which Yu was exhibiting some of her artworks. The show will be open for a month till Nov 22, so if you are free and in LA, please go check it out. I was there for the reception, and it was pretty good exhibit. There were lots of great art.

Look Down

My last work was about looking up, so this time I wanted to look down. 

I went to the nearby park to do some meditation. I was sitting on the grass like this, looking down vacantly at some ants wandering around. For the ants, the little grass area was pretty much their whole world. I started thinking it would be cool if I were looking down at our own world.

I didn't have too many drawings I liked today, but I tried a couple of different style, some of which I thought turned out okay. Today's model was very good with posing, but her elderly body was difficult to draw.

My new illustration work is very close to be finished. Stay tuned. It'll be posted here soon.

I had a pretty good time drawing today. Especially in the first half. Maybe doing a little study on some awesome artists' figure drawing before the class helped. I tried more linear approach today, and enjoyed it a lot.

Doodle Rams

ずいぶん前にグラフィックを手伝ったiPhoneアプリがつい最近やっとリリースされた。
はじめに話が来たのが去年の４月で、細かい直しがあったりはしたけれど、１年前にはほぼ自分の仕事は終わっていたので、なんだか今更な感じは否めない。はじめに聞いた時からいつの間にかゲームの内容もかわっているし、ゲーム内容的にもなんだかなー。


複数対決モードのみでぴょんぴょん上に跳ねていって先に頂上に着いた方が勝ちというゲーム。プレイしようにもプレイしてる人が全然いないし、そもそもひとりでは全くプレイできないという最大の欠点がある。

でも、スタート画面はかわいいよ。

I was a little off mostly today. I had hard time captureing the model's slender body. But I kinda liked this portrait. I'm happy with the likeness though I don't like the kind of cartoony look of it. This was 10-min pose.

ポール

少し前の話になるけれど、２週間ほど前に友達が結婚した。久々に出たアメリカでの結婚式。ロングビーチ内にある日本風庭園で行われて、とてもカジュアルで、服装なんかも日本と比べるとホントに何でもあり。ふつうにTシャツに短パンであったり、フリースジャケットを着ていたり、ビーチサンダルなのになぜか靴下を食い込ませつつはいていたり。別にカジュアルなのはいいと思うんだけど、なんかあえてだらしない格好をしているんじゃないのかとも思えるような人もいた。かといってスーツでばっちりという人（自分も含め）も自然にとけ込めないわけじゃない。この国にいると（とくにカリフォルニア、たぶんNYなんかはちがう気がする）人にあわせるとか、人の服装とか、そういう細かいことがだんだんどうでも良くなってくる気がする。

何はともあれ幸せそうで良かった。末永くお幸せに。

昨日はどこもスティーブジョブスの話題でもちきりだった。
Facebookじゅうに書かれた個々の言葉や、ここにまとめられた世界の偉人からの弔いの言葉をみて彼の偉大さを改めて知る。

今日のドローイング。ちょっと用事があったので、１時間遅れて行ったのだけど、はじめのウォーミングアップがなかった割に結構調子が良かった気がする。なんだろう。このモデルさんの時は比較的良く描けている。好みなのか？

Figure Drawing #16

This week's figure drawing. The new session just started, (It actually started last week, but I couldn't make it because I had to go to my friend's wedding) so this is first time in a little while. This session is 12-week session instead of 6 weeks like before. So, it's a little more commitment. I hope it's going to do well  for my skill improvement.

The first class in any session is always like catch-up for me, so I spent most time adjusting myself back to the life drawing mode. I didn't like any of the longer poses like 10mins and 15mins, so I decided to post ones from 5-min poses. I thought the one above was pretty interesting pose.

A building

This sketch was drawn during this summer while I was waiting for my friend. I would be surprised if anyone can guess where.

Little Boy

Every week, I do at least 2 pages of sketches on my little sketchbook. I've been doing this for years now. And when I have spare time, I pick a drawing and practice my coloring with photoshop.

I did the original drawing of this one on Aug 6th 2o11. I don't remember exactly what I was thinking, but I do remember remembering it was the day the atomic bomb "Little Boy" was dropped in Hishoshima 66 years ago. I think I was wishing if the atomic bomb were something more comical like this.

Now I just remember Otomo Katsuhiro did something very similar a long time ago with watermelon. oh well...

Summer Ends

We just had what it seemed like the hottest days of the year. It cooled down quite bit over night. It looked as if it were the last finale to celebrate the end of the summer. We don't have so much of Fall around here. It's going to be our "usual"or "normal" weather which we seem to have 3/4 of a year.

Done When It's Seen

I started making this piece a while ago. (It started out like this.) I got distracted in the middle, and having some time off made me not want to continue. But, I finally made myself get back to it a few weeks ago, and was pretty close to be done. However, I kept retouching and changing here and there, and now I have come to the conclusion that I just have to stop.

So here it is.

I think it's done. I'm glad that I didn't give up.

This is how I wish everything would be after.

製作中につき

今、あるプロジェクトを急ピッチで進めているので、それ以外のことが少しおろそかになっている。おかげでもう少しで完成しそうだ。途中すごく気に入らなくなったりして、やめようかとも思ったりしたけれど、がんばって押し進めてよかったと思えるものが少しずつできてきた気がする。完成したらここにもアップします。

なつきゃんぷ

約１年ぶりに、というか、毎年恒例になってきている夏のキャンプに行ってきた。今年は、いままでに何回かクライミングで日帰りで行って良さそうだなーと目星を付けていたHorse Flatというところにいってみた。日差しが強くて暑かったけれど、周りに全然人もいなくて、木のいい香りもして、日陰は風が気持ちよくて、とにかく心地よかった。是非ともまた行きたい。予約も何も無く、気軽に行けるところがまた気に入った。今度はクライミングと組み合わせてもいいかもしれない。

Today's model was very good. She had lots of young fresh poses. She was the first female model for this session. It was a nice change.

花も歩けば水にあたる

同じように描いてても、全然思ったように線が描けないと思う事が昔より増えた気がする。それは実際に描けなくなったのか、それとも、昔から描けてなかったのだけど、最近になってやっと自覚できるようになったのか。逆に時間が経ってから、気に入る事もある。同じように描いているつもりでも、見ている時の気分でけっこう見え方が違う。

あいかわらず、習慣的にスケッチをしたりしているわけだけれど、ものすごく意気込んで何か描いても全然気に入らないのに、ふと気軽に描くと気に入ったものができたりする。

定年

７月いっぱいで、父上が車の街トヨタのトヨタ自動車を定年退職した。

月並みな言い方だけど、何十年と働ききるというのは本当にすごいなーと思う。特に若かりし時は労働の大変さもよくわからず、生意気な口をきいたりしましたが、ホント大変だったろうなと思う。留学やら何やらでたくさんお金をかけてしまったし。

相変わらず全然家に帰らないけれど、本当に感謝してます。

長い間、ご苦労様でした。

これからは、趣味など充実した老後を過ごしてください。

そして、どうかお酒を控えめに。母上を大事にしてください。

Today's figure drawing. This was my second time to see this model. He does very static, symmetrical poses which is pretty interesting, but hard to draw correctly. I ended up doing more portraits than usual. His face was very hard to capture also.

クラゲルゲ

別に仕事は大して忙しくはないのだけど、妙に最近気持ちがガサガサする。パサついている。潤いが必要だ。バシっと夏を楽しんで、バシッといいものを創って、こう気持ちをパリッとしたい。効果音だらけでわかりにくいだろうけどね。

figure Painting #4

Digital painting study from last week's figure drawing. I usually like my painting while I'm painting, and start not liking so much after posting, and eventually hate it after a few days. But this time, I'm still liking this one. will see how it looks like after a few days.

By the way, I installed OS X Lion and I really don't like lots of new interfaces. Especially Mission Control. If you like Spaces and Expose of Snow Leopard, I strongly recommend not to upgrade. It's sad to say it, but Apple did really bad job about the user experience, which, I thought, they were pretty good at.

フルーティライオン

テクノロジーに興味のない人には全然どうでもいい話。

OS X Lionがリリースされましたね。新機能のうちの一つAirDropが2009年以降のiMacしかサポートしないってかいてある事にふと気づく。うちのデスクトップはだめかなー。Dropboxがあるからいいんだけど、こういうシステムレベルでの取り組みは大いにウェウカムで、密かに期待していたので残念。近いうちにインストールして試してみます。

それよりも、刷新されたSandy BridgeのAirがほしい。だれかうちのまだまだ新しいAir（３月購入）を買い取ってくれないかな。当時かなりラップトップが必要だったし、この数ヶ月、我が家のIT事情を劇的に改善してくれたこのAir、写真やグラフィックな仕事も淡々とこなしてくれるし、はっきり言って全く不満はないのだけど、買うときにCore2っていうことだけがネックだなーと思っていただけに、このタイミングで変えられるのなら、この先の長い付き合いを考えると変えたい。より新しいものが欲しくなるIT業界のマーケティングに踊らされているとは思うのだけど、この卑しい物欲が・・・
