さいきんのあれこれ

近頃はイベントごとが多くて、書きたいことがいろいろあるのだけど、そんな時はだいたい書くのが面倒になる。だからという訳でもないけれど、この全く関係のないキリンの絵を載せて、ダイジェスト風に出来事をリストアップしてみてしまうことにした。（そうすれば、この先めんどくさくて何も書かなくても記録は残るのだ。）

1.初めて暗黒舞踏を観に行った。

2.ルネッサンスフェアーに奥さんが出たので観に行った。

3.プリンスのコンサートに行った。

あれ、リストにしてみたら、たったの３行で終わってしまった。

ついでなので、この先のイベントの予定も書いてしまおう。

1. 奥さんのすきなアッシャー（アメリカのポップアイドル）のコンサートに行く

2.YMOとCibo Mattoを観にハリウッドボールに行く。

3.奥さんのアートショーがある。

観に行くものばかり。今はいろいろと吸収時なのかもしれない。

たくさん蓄えて、のちほど良い形で放出できたら良いのだけど。

Figure Drawing #11

Today's figure drawing. Today was the last day of the 6-week session.

I felt like I was getting something I couldn't figure out before. I thought felt it a little bit at the end of the last drawing class, but I definitely felt it more today.

It's hard to explain what it is and you might not notice it in my drawing, but some combination of lines, shading, and forms which I couldn't convey before. I hope I don't forget it before the next session starts and nail it down more certainly.

Tale Of Urashima

My latest piece. I created this for this illustration competition held in UK for students and emerging artists.

The only instruction was this;

"Tree time is much longer than human time. From a long time ago -

to the present day. We invite you to illustrate stories which may come from the past but have familiar and current themes; that have relevance to both ancient and very modern contemporary experience."

So I picked an old Japanese tale called Urashima Taro.

It's about a fisherman called Urashima who is rewarded for a rescuing a turtle with a visit to the palace under the sea. He stays there for 3 days and upon his return to his village, finds himself hundreds of years in the future. At the end Urashima opens a gift box which suddenly makes him 100 years old.

In my illustration, I depicted the moment where Urashima comes back to the future, which is our contemporary time, where big tsunami is just about to hit Japan. He opens a gift box that brings him back to his fantasy world that shelters him from the disaster and reality.

I included some symbolism which I am not going to explain everything here, but I hope this piece is going help people ponder about various things and remember about the victims of the Pacific Tsunami of 3.11.2011.

First time in a very long time, my drawing actually does look like the model. He had a very muscular upper body and looong legs (which you can't see here unfortunately)

Thirty Two

I turned 32 on Apr 26.

Yu planned a surprise birthday party last weekend, which really got me off guard.

I was actually suspecting something was going on till my birthday (and maybe next day), but completely forgot about it when I went climbing last weekend, which was 4 days after my actual birthday. When my friends and I got back from climbing and went to eat at restaurant, everyone was there to surprise me. Apparently, the two climbing friends of mine were part of it.

Damn it! No idea.

本日のドローイング。今日は、座っていた椅子にベットリついていた油絵の具が手とドローイングボードと服につくというアクシデントにみまわれて、うまく集中できなかった。そんな中、小さいスケッチブックに描いたやつが唯一気に入った一枚。

昨日から、細かいアクシデント続きで、少しフラストレイトしてたけど、ここらで気持ちを入れ替えて、残りの週末をしっかり満喫しよう。明日はちょっと離れたところの山の上にピクニックに行きます。

Figure Painting #2

（たぶん今週末がイースターなので）早めに休みに入っているクライアントが多く、ウチのオフィス自体はちょうど昨日今日でほとんどのプロジェクトが終わってしまっていたので、久しぶりに暇な時間があった。それで、先週描いたfigure drawingを使って、なんとなしにカラースタディーをした。

やっぱりうまくできないなー。

学校でこういう授業をとってないから、色ののせていき方がいまいち分からない。ああでもない、こうでもないとやったあとで、結局大して色がついてない方がいいやってことで、淡い色だけがのこった。もっとうまくなりたいなー。

こんな具合でずっと同じ事をいいながら、同じところをぐるぐる回っているような気がする。

といっても、何かしら変化はしているのだろうし、別に同じ事をしていたって別にいいのだけれど、なんとなく、ふと焦れったくなったり、まあいっかって一人で納得したり、そんな事を繰り返している。

Figure Drawing #7

ドローングセッション再開。ひさしぶりだったので、少しなまってはいたけれど、楽しめた。きれいなよいモデルさんだったのだけど、こういう時はうまく描けないことが自分をより焦らせる。目の前にある奇麗なものをちゃんと残したいのに残せないっていう葛藤がある。

ま、それよりもなによりも、鉛筆削りを忘れたのが一番焦った。

Scarecrow is kind of a strange word

Be inspired by my wife being so productive and finishing many different projects, I've started working on this sort of a medium-size project, which nobody has asked me to do, which, therefore, is so-called my personal project. Come to think of it, I haven't done like that for a little while, and I'm having a hard time focusing. So, I'm taking a little break right now...
