Profile: noun,

1. A side view of an object or structure, especially of the human head.

2. An outline of an object.

3. Degree of exposure to public notice: visibility

4. A formal summary or analysis of data

A profile is often easier for me to draw than frontal and I like analyzing.

Kurosawa

Today I did a quick portrait of Kurosawa when I had a little down time at work.

If you don't know him, he would just look like an old Asian dude with thick black-frame glasses. He might even look like a great Kung-Fu master.

But, if you know him, he now becomes a great movie director with a sharp brain and unique vision.

Your knowledge always effects what you see.

But, even if you don't know him, you would still be interested if an artist did a great portrait of him.

I want to be that artist.

台所

ウチのキッチン/ダイニング。

ここで毎日朝食を食べ、晩飯を食べ、時には昼食も食べてる。
時には手を抜く事もあるけれど、いつもおいしいものがつくられ
僕に日々のエネルギーを与えてくれる。

改めて考えると不思議な空間で行われる不思議な出来事。
それでもやっぱり当たり前のように僕らは何かを食べて
せかせかと生きている。

Spring

It looks like Spring has come.

I like spring although there is no much of spring in LA.

It seems as if it skips to mid-summer after winter.

Well...I'm just glad there was a little bit of rainy-cold winter at least.

Otherwise, it just feels the same all year around.

I feel like traveling to different cities to see different seasons and different climates.

近況２月。

気づいたら、いつのまにか前回のポストから３週間も経ってる。

時間が経つのが早すぎる。

でも、やっと一つプロジェクトが終わった。

少し時間をかけすぎたけど、なんとかできて良かった。

次は自分の式のだ。

最近ちょっと書きたいと思うことがあったんだけど、なかなかうまくまとまらず、時間だけが過ぎて、内容からフレッシュさが損なわれつつあって残念。

もっと時間のある時にまた書こう。

毎日のように通勤で自転車には乗ってるけど、最近あんまりゆっくりポタリングってしてないから、近々どっか行きたいなぁ。

VISTA

A random thought;

I don't feel too lonely when I'm alone, but I sometimes get very lonely when I'm actually with people, depending on who I'm with.

However, the deep loneliness you get from being absolutely alone is another story.

p.s.

This is my another attempt of drawing on Cintiq. I'm getting a little better, I think. The watercolor effect helps, too.

VISTA is one of the movie theatres by my house, but this is not how it looks. I just couldn't come up with a name of a theare.

City

I've been practicing to draw on Cintiq (the WACOM display tablet). I tried to imitate the graphite-pencil quality with custom Photoshop brush, but it ended up looking pretty much like a computer drawing.

The line quality looks better with Autodesk Sketchbook in my opinion, but the program needs a lot more work in terms of layers, straight lines, colors and so on.

Anyways, after practicing a few, I think I feel a little more confident now to draw out of head on Cintiq, which my Boss wants me to do in front of our clients through Internet eventually...

Mouth and Eye

In Japanese, there is a saying that goes...

"the eyes can say as much as the mouth."

I think about that a lot when I draw eyes.

But, I also think...

"the mouth can say a lot without saying a actual word."

I think about that too when I draw.

The nose doesn't say much. I wonder if everyone agrees with that.

想像すること

ただ単純に風景を想像して描きたいと思う今日この頃。

そうやってどこか違うところに行きたいと思う。

SF的世界を妄想するのも好きだけど、どこかにありそうな生活感漂う、普通臭い風景も心地よく感じる。

でも、昔と比べると、何もないところから、何かを創造するってことが不得意になった気がする。ただの気のせいなのか。それとも、何か理由があるのかは分からないけれど。

でも、なんにしても、結局何もないところから生み出してるつもりでも、どこか今までに見たものをつなぎ合わせてるわけで、本当に見た事もない世界を創るのって自分にできるのかなって、ふと不安になる。

如月

ここ数日、よく雨が降る。

普段晴れてばかりだから、どこか違う場所に引っ越したみたいな気持ちで心地いい。

もう２月だ。

最近、なかなかブログをアップする時間がない。

たしかにしなくちゃいけないことはそれなりにあるけれど、

かといって、そのタスクが思ったようにできてる訳でもなく、

ただ時間だけが過ぎてゆく。感じがする。

なんでもいい、なんでもいいから、何かの印みたいにどこかに何かを残したい。と、ふと思う。
