毎年、干支の絵を年賀状を兼ねて描いているのだけど、今年は納得のいく辰がどうも描けず、なので年賀メールもほとんど送らなかった。１０代とか２０代のはじめとか竜の絵は（たぶんその年頃の、絵を描くのが好きな男の子がよくそうであるように）よく描いたりしていたのに、今改めて描こうと思ったら、どうもありきたりで照れくさくてうまく描けない。むずかしい。

明日で２０１１年も仕事納め。前日の今日は最近ではかなり珍しく暇だった。うまくいけば明日は半日。１月２日に戻ってくるまで１週間強の休みに入る。正月よりもクリスマスの方が断然重要視されてるアメリカは仕事始めは早いけれど、休みに入るのも早い。盆休みというものがないので、ほぼ唯一の統一的な長期休み（自分でとる有給休暇的バケーションを除いてという意味）。理不尽なラッシュの仕事が入らないことを切に願う。毎年のようにそれで少しゴタゴタするので、たまには穏やかに終わってほしい。 P.S. あまりにも暇だったので、レイアウトを少しかえてみた。慣れないとなんだか見にくい。ヘッダー用の絵を今度描こうと思う。

予想はしていたけど、先週のモデルが強烈すぎて今週は気持ちが乗りづらかったなー。一般的にいえば、今日の人の方が全然奇麗なのだろうけど、なんだかとてもビッチィーな人だったっていうのもあって、なかなか惹き付けられなかった。ビューティーとは難解である。 ちなみに今日のが今年最後のクラス。少し休んで、また来年いくつもり。

忙しい季節なので仕事は忙しいけれど、いろいろわるくない。毎日自転車で通勤し、クライミングに行き、のんびり本を読んだり、週末にはドローイングのクラスにいったりしている。最近は冬らしくLAもそこそこ寒い。もうすぐ今年も終わる。近頃は友達にレクチャーしてもらいながら自分のウェブサイトのリニューアルを少しずつ進めてる（おかげで新作の政策は滞っているけれど）ボスがいろいろうるさいのもあって（それだけではないけど）残念ながら年末は帰れない。でも、そのかわり、友達が日本から少しだけど遊びに来るので楽しみだ。べガスで一発当てたい。

Today's model was really good (though my drawing wasn't so good.) According to my friend, he is a pretty well-known model around here, and he's been a model for a quite long time. He didn't take a break for the first hour and half, just kept posing and posing, and got everyone into the zone. Everyone, including myself, seemed a little exhausted on the 2nd half of the class.

昨日はドローイングのクラスをさぼり、久々に外に登りに行った。うちから１時間ちょいの岩場ホースフラットに。もともとはキャンプもするつもりだったのだけれど、前後の天気に恵まれなかったので、日帰りで。ちょうど前日に初雪が降ったようで、きれいに薄く雪が積もって、しかも当日は奇麗な秋晴れで、とても気持ちのよい登り日になった。友達のカメラに頼り切っていたので、いま全然手元に写真がない。

I totally forgot to announce this, but there was an opening reception last Friday for a group show, in which Yu was exhibiting some of her artworks. My last work was about looking up, so this time I wanted to look down.  I went to the nearby park to do some meditation. I was sitting on the grass like this, looking down vacantly at some ants wandering around. For the ants, the little grass area was pretty much their whole world. I didn't have too many drawings I liked today, but I tried a couple of different style, some of which I thought turned out okay. ずいぶん前にグラフィックを手伝ったiPhoneアプリがつい最近やっとリリースされた。 はじめに話が来たのが去年の４月で、細かい直しがあったりはしたけれど、１年前にはほぼ自分の仕事は終わっていたので、なんだか今更な感じは否めない。はじめに聞いた時からいつの間にかゲームの内容もかわっているし、ゲーム内容的にもなんだかなー。 複数対決モードのみでぴょんぴょん上に跳ねていって先に頂上に着いた方が勝ちというゲーム。プレイしようにもプレイしてる人が全然いないし、そもそもひとりでは全くプレイできないという最大の欠点がある。 でも、スタート画面はかわいいよ。 Doodle Rams Multiplayer

少し前の話になるけれど、２週間ほど前に友達が結婚した。久々に出たアメリカでの結婚式。ロングビーチ内にある日本風庭園で行われて、とてもカジュアルで、服装なんかも日本と比べるとホントに何でもあり。ふつうにTシャツに短パンであったり、フリースジャケットを着ていたり、ビーチサンダルなのになぜか靴下を食い込ませつつはいていたり。別にカジュアルなのはいいと思うんだけど、なんかあえてだらしない格好をしているんじゃないのかとも思えるような人もいた。かといってスーツでばっちりという人（自分も含め）も自然にとけ込めないわけじゃない。この国にいると（とくにカリフォルニア、たぶんNYなんかはちがう気がする）人にあわせるとか、人の服装とか、そういう細かいことがだんだんどうでも良くなってくる気がする。 何はともあれ幸せそうで良かった。末永くお幸せに。

約１年ぶりに、というか、毎年恒例になってきている夏のキャンプに行ってきた。今年は、いままでに何回かクライミングで日帰りで行って良さそうだなーと目星を付けていたHorse Flatというところにいってみた。日差しが強くて暑かったけれど、周りに全然人もいなくて、木のいい香りもして、日陰は風が気持ちよくて、とにかく心地よかった。是非ともまた行きたい。予約も何も無く、気軽に行けるところがまた気に入った。今度はクライミングと組み合わせてもいいかもしれない。

同じように描いてても、全然思ったように線が描けないと思う事が昔より増えた気がする。それは実際に描けなくなったのか、それとも、昔から描けてなかったのだけど、最近になってやっと自覚できるようになったのか。逆に時間が経ってから、気に入る事もある。同じように描いているつもりでも、見ている時の気分でけっこう見え方が違う。あいかわらず、習慣的にスケッチをしたりしているわけだけれど、ものすごく意気込んで何か描いても全然気に入らないのに、ふと気軽に描くと気に入ったものができたりする。

７月いっぱいで、父上が車の街トヨタのトヨタ自動車を定年退職した。月並みな言い方だけど、何十年と働ききるというのは本当にすごいなーと思う。特に若かりし時は労働の大変さもよくわからず、生意気な口をきいたりしましたが、ホント大変だったろうなと思う。留学やら何やらでたくさんお金をかけてしまったし。相変わらず全然家に帰らないけれど、本当に感謝してます。長い間、ご苦労様でした。これからは、趣味など充実した老後を過ごしてください。そして、どうかお酒を控えめに。母上を大事にしてください。

Today's figure drawing. This was my second time to see this model. He does very static, symmetrical poses which is pretty interesting, but hard to draw correctly. I ended up doing more portraits than usual. His face was very hard to capture also.

テクノロジーに興味のない人には全然どうでもいい話。OS X Lionがリリースされましたね。新機能のうちの一つAirDropが2009年以降のiMacしかサポートしないってかいてある事にふと気づく。うちのデスクトップはだめかなー。Dropboxがあるからいいんだけど、こういうシステムレベルでの取り組みは大いにウェウカムで、密かに期待していたので残念。近いうちにインストールして試してみます。それよりも、刷新されたSandy BridgeのAirがほしい。だれかうちのまだまだ新しいAir（３月購入）を買い取ってくれないかな。当時かなりラップトップが必要だったし、この数ヶ月、我が家のIT事情を劇的に改善してくれたこのAir、写真やグラフィックな仕事も淡々とこなしてくれるし、はっきり言って全く不満はないのだけど、買うときにCore2っていうことだけがネックだなーと思っていただけに、このタイミング

The older I get, the more difficult it has gotten for me to let go with inconsistency. When somebody says something, it bugs me when it doesn't get done the way he says originally. When I do or say something, I really want to do it consistently. It's getting more apparent as I get older, it seems.However, I have pretty inconsistent style for my drawing and painting. 最近、ひさびさにパルプフィクションを観て、ファイブダラーシェイクのシーンをみて、無性にシェイクが飲みたくなったので、ウチから歩いて３分のところにある２４時間営業のダイナーにいったら、そこのシェイクが＄６だった。さんざん迷ってモカシェイクを買い、うちの裏庭のオレンジの木の陰にビーチチェアーを置いて、夏らしい演出をほどこして飲むと、これが何とも言えないほどファッキングットなシェイクだった。これはこの夏ハマるかもしれない。ちなみにこのFred62という５０sダイナー、ちょくちょく映画の撮影に使われているようなところで、なかなかマッチョでアメリカンな雰囲気を楽しめます。

やく２週間ほど前に我が家に種苗場ができた。奥さんのアートプロジェクトのため、事情があって試験管に種を植えて育てているのだけど、この育ち具合がなかなか見ていて飽きない。試験管のような狭い苗床でいったいどれくらい育つのかと思ったけど、なんてことはない、ぐんぐん伸びている。種から育てるのなんて、たぶん、小学生の時にアサガオやヘチマを育てた時以来。キッチンテーブルに置いてあるので、うちの食卓がとても賑やかになった。もっと大きくなってプロジェクトが終われば、もっと大きな鉢に移るわけだけれど、このこじんまりした感じがまた見ていて心地いい。植物達にしてみれば、はやくこの狭いところから飛び出したいところかもしれないけど、もう少しの辛抱です。

今、我が家のキリン草がぐんぐん伸びている。うちに来て４年。全く変化がなかったり、悲しいほど葉が落ちてしまったり、それでも、ちょくちょく思い出したように花を咲かせたりしていたけれど、こんなにぐいぐい伸びて葉を広げようとしているのは、未だかつてなかったような気がする。どうしたのだろう。土も変えてないし、おいてある環境も変えてない。多肉植物は厳しい環境でも成長を滞らせて耐え凌ぐ事ができるってどこかで聞いたけれど、何が気に入らなくて、何が良くなったのかさっぱり。あえていうなら、今までは１週間に１、２回の水やりだったのだけど、最近、よく伸びているので、ほぼ毎日あげている。そしてさらに目に見えてぐいぐい伸びている。伸びすぎるとよくないと聞いたことがあるので、ある程度伸びたらきり戻してあげようかな。あいかわらず、頭の方に葉が集中して、間を空けて下の方に葉が少しあってすこし不格好なので、できたらその間

本日のドローイング。今日は、座っていた椅子にベットリついていた油絵の具が手とドローイングボードと服につくというアクシデントにみまわれて、うまく集中できなかった。そんな中、小さいスケッチブックに描いたやつが唯一気に入った一枚。昨日から、細かいアクシデント続きで、少しフラストレイトしてたけど、ここらで気持ちを入れ替えて、残りの週末をしっかり満喫しよう。明日はちょっと離れたところの山の上にピクニックに行きます。

（たぶん今週末がイースターなので）早めに休みに入っているクライアントが多く、ウチのオフィス自体はちょうど昨日今日でほとんどのプロジェクトが終わってしまっていたので、久しぶりに暇な時間があった。それで、先週描いたfigure drawingを使って、なんとなしにカラースタディーをした。やっぱりうまくできないなー。学校でこういう授業をとってないから、色ののせていき方がいまいち分からない。ああでもない、こうでもないとやったあとで、結局大して色がついてない方がいいやってことで、淡い色だけがのこった。もっとうまくなりたいなー。こんな具合でずっと同じ事をいいながら、同じところをぐるぐる回っているような気がする。といっても、何かしら変化はしているのだろうし、別に同じ事をしていたって別にいいのだけれど、なんとなく、ふと焦れったくなったり、まあいっかって一人で納得したり、そんな事を繰り返している。

ドローングセッション再開。ひさしぶりだったので、少しなまってはいたけれど、楽しめた。きれいなよいモデルさんだったのだけど、こういう時はうまく描けないことが自分をより焦らせる。目の前にある奇麗なものをちゃんと残したいのに残せないっていう葛藤がある。ま、それよりもなによりも、鉛筆削りを忘れたのが一番焦った。

I helped my friend on this iPhone App. I did the main graphics. It's out on US iTunes App Store, and it's free. Please check it out if you have iPhone or iPod touch. 地震に関していろいろな情報が出回っている。誰でも簡単に情報を発信できる今の世の中、何が正しくて何が正しくないのか、なかなか判断がむずかしい。だからといって、必要以上に騒ぎ立てるのはどうなんだろう。Facebookなんかでも、被災地からはそれなりに離れているはずなのに、ちょっとドラマクィーン的になっている人がどうしても目についてしまう。たしかに僕は海外にいるし、結局は”外”の人間だから冷静でいられるのだといわれれば、その通りなのかもしれないけれど、それでも、今の自分に現実的にできることというのを考えて行動したいと思っているし、こんな個人的で貧弱なブログでも伝えるべきことは伝えたいと思っている。科学者のような人が言ったからといって、鵜呑みにするのは危険であるし、放射能に対しては科学的にみても意見の分かれるようなこともたくさんある。それでも、僕らにはそういった肩書きなんかをもとに、情報を手探

先週でひとまずドローイングのセッションは終わったのだけど、なにやらおまけのセッションがあるというので昨日２時間ほど行ってきた。１時間遅れて行ったので、いきなり１０分ポーズからで多少違和感はあったけど、まあ楽しく描くことができた。途中ごっついカメラを持った観光客っぽいおじさんがヌードの写真を撮りたいと言って入ってきたのにはみんな唖然としてた。いいわけないだろうに。２週間ほど前にこわれたうちのデスクトップ。結局ハードディスクの交換をして無事帰ってきたのはよかったのだけど、なぜかバックアップドライブからのシステム全体の復旧がうまくいかず、一つずつマニュアルで戻していくことに。パソコンから余分なものを取り除くいい機会と思って地道にやりはじめたのはよいけれど、３年以上使ったパソコンにはなかなかいろいろ贅肉がついてますね。終わったら、それなりにスリムになりそうです。せっかくだからメモリの増設

２月は比較的、仕事がそんなに忙しくない月である。にもかかわらず、今月はいつもより多く週末勤務があった。つい２日前もクラスのあとに仕事があった。それでも、平日は暇だったりするし、もともと短い月なので、月の決算は少ないらしい。もともと、忙しさの波の激しい業界であるし、気がつけばもう７年目にもなるので、そんなに取り乱す事もなく、忙しければ働くし、暇な時はさぼる。しかしながら、体だけ大きくて肝っ玉の小さいうちの社長は、忙しくても、暇でも、とにかくいつも取り乱している。彼の絵描きとしての腕前とプレゼンをして人を惹き付ける力は、ものすごいと思うけれど、彼のマネージメントのまどろっこしさや、感情に流されすぎる判断力には、もうとっくの昔に愛想を尽かしたつもりでいたけど、やっぱり直面するたびにげんなりする。ウチは年収計算なので、残業しても給料が増えない。（正確には仕事の多い月は臨時ボーナスが出たりする時

先週の水曜日、仕事の休みが取れたので、誕生日の奥さんのために初めてのベイキングを決行。ほとんどウチに材料があり、しかも初心者にも難しくなさそうにみえたバナナカップケーキを作ることに。オンラインでレシピを調べてつくったのだけど、結論からいうと、それなりに奇麗に焼けた。まぁ、かなりマフィンぽくなったのは否めないのだけど、焼き上がりの見た目にはかなり満足。味もまぁおいしかったし、奥さんにも喜んでもらえて良かった。ただ、フロスティングは失敗。でも、フロスティングがのってると甘過ぎてあまり好みじゃないので、まぁよしとする。フロスティングがのってないと、それこそカップケーキにはほど遠い気もするけれど。いろいろ量を量ったり、混ぜたりする行程は、なんだか無心になれて心地よく、結構自分向きのプロセスかもしれないと思った。

本日のドローイング。うーん、今日はなんだかイマイチだったなー。この違いは何なんだろう。いや、こんな週一回しかないクラスでも、どこをどう描くべきかとかが、少しずつでも思い出してきたし、よく描けたっていうのもあるんだけど、とにかくうまく集中できなかったな。禿げた小太りのおじさんっていうのとか関係あるのかなー。結構ポーズとか好きだったし、うまく描きたい意欲とかどんどん湧いてきてたのに、どうもうまくいかなかった。しかし、それにしても、クラスに人が全然来なくなってきた。空いてるぶんにはいいんだけど、クラスの存続が少し心配になる。全然関係ないけど、うちのデスクトップが壊れた。ただでさえノートの調子が悪くなってきてて買い替えたいと思っていたところに、まさかのデスクトップが。リインストールもできないし、ハードディスクでも逝かれたのかなー。早く修理しなければ。ちゃんとバックアップとっといて良かった。

週末は比較的ゆっくり過ごし、昨日は奥さんの好きな近所の美術館で、インストレーションアートを展示しているアーティストの話を聞けるというので、行ってきた。子供の頃、メキシコの国境近くに住みながらも、１４年間、毎日国境を越えてアメリカ側にある学校に通っていたというその人。その”一線を越える”という経験がその人の芸術活動に影響を与え続けたようで、元は家具デザインなどからはじめたのだけど、そこからいろいろな素材や手法をアメリカやメキシコの原住民たちから学び、それらをおりまぜながら、新たな一線を越えるべく新しい表現のかたちを探しながらいろいろおもしろい活動をしているようだ。話も面白かったし、部屋いっぱいに張られた毛糸でできたインストレーションもなかなか素敵だった。http://www.aguinigadesign.com/そして、今日は奥さんの誕生日。世間はなにやら大統領の日とかで休みらしいのだけど

Today's figure drawings. It didn't go too easy, but still better than the 1st one. Maybe I was nervous a little since I missed the last class. I could see the forms of the figure but had a hard time capturing some lines of the figure. might have been because the model had skinny, intricate body line.I think it was because she was sort of a pretty model, some guys were trying to talk to the model

アメリカは、バレンタインと言えば、男女ともに何かを渡し合う日です。男は主に花をあげ（たぶん）、女の人はチョコに限らず、なにかそういった食べものをあげる。うちはフルーツパイを焼いてくれました。こっちは日本に比べるとそのあたりの表現が男も女もストレートかつ表出的なので、恋人や夫婦は老若男女けっこうまじめに毎年やっている（おそらく）。バレンタインにはどこかビジネスの香りがしないでもないけれど、こうやって年に一度でも、愛情や感謝の気持ちを確認し交換し合う日があるのは個人的には良いと思う。そこにホントに気持ちがあればだけれど。

今週はとても仕事が忙しく、珍しく残業もしたし、週末も働いて残念ながらドローイングのクラスは断念。直前まで行くつもりでいたし、行こうと思えば行けたのだけど、やっぱりその前後に仕事がみっちりあると思うと、気持ちがげんなりしちゃっていけなかったなー。今、そのクラスが楽しくてしょうがないだけにすごく残念。同じ絵を描くってことでも、いろいろその内容によって気持ちの持ちようが全然違う。

I digital-painted one of the figure drawings from yesterday. I'm liking how it came out, though I feel that there is a little something I can do to make this better. I got stuck and am not experienced enough to figure it out in a short amount of time, so I gave up.

I had 2nd drawing session today. I could draw a lot more comfortably today than the last time.I could look at the lines on the figure and lines on paper more calmly. I'm liking how the forms came out today. Still not happy with the faces. I need to learn the anatomy on faces much much more.

昨日は５年以上ぶりのライフドローイングのクラス初日。思ってたよりかなりよいクラスだった。モデルもよかったし、雰囲気もよかった。３時間みっちり、ショートポーズを描き続けた。ただ、自分の腕が鈍ってたなぁ。全然描けない。その中でもまぁかけたと思うやつをアップしてみたけど、やっぱり描きつづけないとだめなんだなーと実感。ただでさえ苦手なのに、さらに苦戦した。普段の仕事や週２ページほどのちょこっとしたスケッチじゃ、上達どころが維持することもできないことがわかってしまったのは、ある意味収穫か。これからももっと持続していって、あわよくばスキルアップできればいいなぁ。これから毎週、このクラスで描いた絵をアップしてその変化を観察していきたいと思う。

www.cotton-well.comちょっと前になるけど奥さんのウェブサイトを作りました。（っていっても、一から作ったわけではなくて、あるウェブサイトのテンプレートを編集しただけだけど。）けっこうおもしろい作品があるので、時間のある時にでも覗いてみてください。しかも、最近、創作意欲に燃えていて、いつも熱心になにかを作ってるので、きっとまた近いうちに作品をアップしていくと思われます。ちなみに、cotton-wellっていうのは奥さんのアーティストネームでファーストネームが英語でcotton,　ラストネームがwell（正確にはabove the wellだけど）からきてます。

近頃の日本はとても寒いらしい。愛知県も大雪が降ったとニュースでやっていた。それにくらべ最近のカリフォルニアはとても暖かい。２週間ぐらい前はLAでも場所によっては雪が降るぐらい寒かったのに、ここ数日は２５度を超えるぽかぽか陽気。季節感がないにもほどがあるが、毎年なぜか１月はとても暖かい時期がある。なぜだろう。最近ややネタ切れ気味なので何年か前に仕事中の空き時間に描いたアフロオジさんに色をつけてみた。もう時期はズレてしまったけれど、なんだかサンタっぽくなってしまったので、それっぽくしてみた。そういえば、来週末から久々にライフドローイングのクラスをとる。近所のアート系の施設で安く提供されてたのでとってみる事にした。クラスといっても先生はいなくて、ただひたすらにポーズを変え続けるモデルを3時間ほど描き続けるっていうものだけど、ずっと自分には足りてなくて、補強したいと思っていた能力なので、かなり楽

年賀うさぎのボツ案。なんか気持ち悪いということで、もうひとつのウサギを採用したのだけど、改めて見るとこれはこれでかわいく見えてきたので、アップすることに。アメリカに無事帰ってきました。１週間強の帰国の間にわりと多くの人に会えました。時間を合わせてあってくれた人、どうもありがとう。１０代の頃、多感な時期に遊んでいた友達に久々にあって、もう倍以上の年齢になったのに、昔と同じような馬鹿な話をして笑い、とても気持ちがほぐれました。けっこう多くの友達に子供が１人、もしくは２人、もしくは３人もいたりして、みんなおとなだなーっと妙に感心してしまった。ほんとにすごいと思う。よく外国にいることを凄いとか言われるけど、アメリカにたまたま来て、たまたま居座ることになっただけのことで、それだけでは全然凄いことはないってことがアメリカに来てわかったと思ってるわけで、あたりまえだけど地元でもちゃんとしてる人は山

It's been raining 4 days straight.And it's supposed to rain 2 more days before it stops.And it's supposed to rain harder tomorrow than it did the last 4 days.It's so not like California.It's cold and unpleasant, but I still like it even though I have to bike to work in the rain. 今日は日曜出勤。うちの会社が今週末LAで行われたShowBiz Expoていうなにやらよくわからないエンターテインメント系のコンベンションに出展するってわけでその手助けをすることに。結局のところどんなコンベンションだったのかもよく分からないうちに終わったのだけど、遠隔で人に見られながら絵を描いたり、慣れないことだらけでストレスフルではあったけど、ある意味よい経験になった。でも、やっぱり自分ってストーリーボードにはイマイチ向いてないなーって改めて思ってしまったなー。この会社で学んできたいろんな技術や経験をもっと有効に使える気がするって。今のままでは、どこにいってもまだまだ中途半端すぎると思うので、もっともっと腕をあげたいところ。

ああ、よく休んだサンクスギビングの連休だった。年末日本に帰るまで約１ヶ月。きっとあっという間に過ぎてしまうのだろうな。時間の流れは一定じゃないはずだと常々思う。今回の日本滞在は９日間。人に会ったり、近頃のトヨタの街を観察したり、ものをみたり、正月を家でだらだらしたり、そんな感じのつもり。たのしみだなー。

あいかわらず、更新が滞っています。いろいろなものの流れはそんなに悪くはないのだけど、どうも時間の調整がうまくできていない。どうも、時間に追われてる感じが抜けきらない。なんとかなってるからこれはこれでいいのだけど、個人的にはもうすこし先手をとって前に進み、立ち止まって待つぐらいが好ましい。季節的にもしょうがないのか。特に大きな理由がなくても季節的になんだか気持ちが慌ただしくなるってあるよね。

気づけばもう１０月も最後の日。いわゆるカボチャの日です。今月は全然アップできなかったなー。先週は久々のヨセミテに行く予定だったのだけど、雨と雪で急遽サンノゼに何人かの友達に会いにいきました。そのうちの一人がラーメン屋を開いていて、そこに食べに。いや、うまかったです。しかももう２店舗をオープンしたっていうし、同い年なのに、立派な経営者になっていた。しかもアメリカで（ちなみにおなじくTOYOTA出身）。わからないもんだなー。

I often see birds trying to sit on the very unbalanced places. They keep swinging their head and tail to keep balanced, but never look very comfortable.I don't know why they do that.It doesn't seem that every bird does it, but when there is a group, there is always one doing that. I bet that's the socially goofy one, just like us humans.
